Derelict Update, Oct 8 2011

Greetings everyone! Max here and I’m very excited to write the first of what will now be a regular Derelict blog. We will be talking to you guys about a whole bunch of things like lyrics, the songwriting process, different thoughts we have about music, and possibly peanut butter sandwiches.

For the moment I think you guys deserve a full update on the band and what we’re up to. Many things have happened since the Northern Shores tour. Some good things as well as some less good things but all in all we are very happy with the direction the band is taking and can’t wait for you all to hear it. As of right now our new album is fully written and arranged. We have 12 tracks for close to 45 minutes of brutal, yet melodic, death metal on the way. Our new guitarist Collin McGee has been a welcome addition to our ranks and his leads will contribute to taking our music to a new level of musicianship.

We recently hosted a private party here in Montreal where we premiered a bunch of our new tracks to some of the local Metal Militia and had a great time. The feedback was very positive so we’re all very excited about that. Besides that we were extremely pleased to be offered a slot opening for Decapitated, Decrepit Birth, Fleshgod Apocalypse and Rings of Saturn at Foufounes Electriques on Wednesday, October 26th (Event: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=206241806102975). This will be a great gig for us and hopefully those of you in the area will come out to see it!

That same weekend we are heading out to Ontario for the first time since the spring. We will be playing Shredfest 2011 in Brantford at Club NV alongside our good friends in Endast, Misguided Aggression, Exes for Eyes, Immersed as well as Besegra (Event:https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=208462749199104). This should be one hell of a show and it’s for charity, so once again, if you’re in the area, you should definitely not miss this great lineup. We are thereafter heading to North Bay (venue and lineup TBA) to play another show the next day. It should be a nice and brutal weekend.

On the album front, ¾ of the rhythm guitar tracks are recorded at this point. Guitars should be done by November. The bass is being recorded in Switzerland by our good friend Sebastien Pittet who also mans the bass duties in Augury. Drums and vocals will be recorded by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) in November and December.

Lastly, we have a new merch store and are progressively adding new stuff to it, including a new shirt design themed after our song, ‘Expiry’. Click here: http://derelictmetal.ifmerch.com/en/

Thanks for reading guys. Like I said previously, stay tuned because there’s going to be a lot of content on this new blog of ours. We hope you’ll dig it.

See you in the pit.

Big show announcement: Montreal alongside Decapited, Decrepit Birth, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Rings of Saturn

Hey guys. Eric here. I’m extremely happy to let you know that we’re going to be performing in our hometown alongside some of our biggest influences. Here’s the event page:

For one, Decapitated are a band over which I and Max bonded before we even played together. Vogg’s guitar playing is simply legendary, and his persistence in the face of the tragedies of recent years is something to draw inspiration from.

I’m not going to run you through every band on the bill here, but if you’re into death metal as well as appreciate a well-put together music video, be sure to check out ‘The Violation’ by below. This video, in my opinion, raises the bar for the metal genre.

We hope to see you at the show!

Biography

Hailing from Montreal, Derelict mixes the brutal and technical elements of the Quebec metal scene with listenable structures and melody, resulting in an unforgiving yet accessible package. The band’s trademark sound has led to comparisons with the likes of Death, Strapping Young Lad, and The Black Dahlia Murder.

In 2009, the release of the Unspoken Words album through Year of the Sun Records marked a kickoff point for Derelict with several national tours, increased media exposure, and greater critical acclaim. The band’s 2011 EP served to preview new material, cement a growing fan base, and set the stage for a new full-length album in 2012: Perpetuation. Mixed and mastered by Chris Donaldson of Cryptopsy, this release contains 12 furious tracks that put forth an upgraded version of what Derelict fans have come to love.

“This album has been long in the making, and saw the band through some intense challenges,” says vocalist Eric Burnet. “We survived our trials and came back much stronger. Perpetuation is streamlined Derelict: it has fast tempos and brutal riffs, but lots of melody and catchiness too. We all pushed ourselves to expand what we could do with our instruments, and we got Sébastien Pittet from Augury playing fretless bass on this thing too!”

With the help of constant touring within Canada, and support for international acts such as Decapitated, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Decrepit Birth, Job For A Cowboy, Whitechapel, The Agonist, Revocation and Threat Signal, the band is expanding its fan base exponentially and is making itself known as a force to be reckoned with.
